FG Verifies Kolmani Oil Field, Plans to Resume Exploration

The Federal Government has pledged to facilitate the resumption of exploration activities at the Kolmani Oil Field in Bauchi State.

The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Muhammad Bello, made the commitment on Monday during a verification visit to the oil field.

Bello said the commission visited the site to assess the current condition of the project and support efforts to ensure its continuation. He described the project as important not only to Bauchi State and the North-East but to Nigeria as a whole.

He said the commission wanted the momentum of the project, which began in 2023, to resume, adding that President Bola Tinubu was concerned about the project and had assured the governors involved that the necessary mobilisation would be provided for exploration to continue.

According to Bello, the commission would assess the project and submit its findings to the relevant authorities to support efforts to revive exploration activities.

During an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy, Bello also praised the Bauchi State Government for establishing institutions capable of producing the skilled manpower needed when oil exploration becomes fully operational.

Earlier, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Natural Resources, Maiwada Bello, disclosed that exploration activities at the site had stopped since July 2025.

He said the state government became concerned after receiving reports from the host community that the company handling the project had begun withdrawing from the site.

The commissioner explained that the state and local government subsequently formed a joint team and met with the technical company responsible for the project to discuss the situation.

Maiwada said the RMAFC verification visit had renewed hopes that activities would soon resume at the oil field.

He added that the Bauchi State Government, under Governor Bala Mohammed, remained prepared to provide the manpower and other support required to facilitate the exploration project.
