Fayose Assumes Office as Chairman of Rural Electrification Agency Board

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has officially assumed office as Chairman of the Governing Board of Nigeria's Rural Electrification Agency (REA) following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

Fayose was inaugurated on Friday in Abuja by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, alongside other members of the agency's governing board. The new board includes Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar, Mr. Ilyasu Makinta, and other non-executive directors, while Mr. Abba Aliyu formally took office as the Managing Director of the agency.

Speaking after the inauguration, Fayose expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to provide strong leadership to advance the agency's mandate.

He said his priority would be to strengthen the REA by providing the necessary political support and ensuring adequate funding for its programmes to expand electricity access, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Fayose assured Nigerians that the new board would work diligently to meet public expectations and contribute to the success of the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda.

He stressed that the agency's mission extends beyond providing electricity, noting that improved access to power would boost education, healthcare, agriculture, businesses, and overall economic development in communities across the country.

Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe urged the new board to focus on the real impact of electrification, saying success should be measured by the number of communities and people benefiting from reliable electricity rather than by electricity generation figures alone.

Tegbe described the REA as a key institution in Nigeria's power sector reforms and called on the board to uphold transparency, accountability, innovation, and strategic governance while strengthening partnerships with development agencies and the private sector.

REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu also reaffirmed the agency's commitment to expanding electricity access through rural and off-grid electrification projects, promising continued efforts to connect underserved communities nationwide.

The inauguration officially marks the beginning of the new governing board's tenure, with Fayose expected to provide strategic oversight and policy direction for the agency's operations.
