Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has declared that he will not contest another presidential election if he loses the 2027 poll.
Atiku made the disclosure during an interview conducted in Hausa on Wednesday, responding to a question about whether he would seek another presidential nomination if he was defeated in 2027.
He said the 2027 election would be his final attempt at the presidency.
Atiku, who has contested Nigeria’s presidency several times, also urged Nigerians with Permanent Voter Cards to participate actively in the 2027 election.
He advised voters not only to cast their ballots but also to remain at their polling units to ensure that their votes are properly counted.
The ADC candidate also dismissed concerns about his ability to govern on health grounds, insisting that he remains physically fit and capable of leading Nigeria.
He said no doctor had declared him unfit and maintained that he was in good health.
The ADC Vanguard described Atiku’s decision as significant, suggesting that the 2027 election could be the final opportunity for Nigerians to decide whether to entrust him with the presidency.
Atiku’s political career has spanned several decades, including multiple presidential campaigns. The 2027 election could therefore mark the final stage of his long-running bid for Nigeria’s highest political office.
