The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, has appointed former Kaduna State Commissioner and university lecturer, John Ayuba, as Director-General of his Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Ashiru also appointed Bashir Ibrahim Sakadadi as Deputy Director-General (Operations) and Mukhtar Baloni as Secretary of the Campaign Council.
Ayuba, who has experience in academia, banking, public administration and politics, is expected to provide strategic leadership for the campaign and coordinate efforts across the state.
He holds a PhD in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he was reportedly the best candidate in the PhD qualifying examination. He lectured at the university from 1981 to 1988 before joining the banking sector.
Ayuba later became Divisional Head of Corporate, Commercial and Retail Banking (North) at Diamond Bank. He subsequently served as Kaduna State Commissioner for Finance under the late Governor Patrick Yakowa and Commissioner for Water Resources under former Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero.
He was also the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in Kaduna State during the 2023 election.
According to Ashiru, the appointments were based on the appointees’ combination of administrative experience, academic and financial expertise, political knowledge and grassroots mobilisation capacity.
Sakadadi is expected to oversee grassroots mobilisation, constituency engagement and campaign operations, while Baloni will serve as secretary of the campaign council, bringing his experience from his time as chairman and vice chairman of Kaduna North Local Government Area.
Ashiru expressed confidence that the newly constituted team would lead a focused, professional and people-oriented campaign across Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
