Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Ankara on Tuesday to attend the two-day 2026 NATO Summit, where he is expected to hold key discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump on strengthening support for Ukraine.
The visit comes after Russia launched another wave of missile attacks on Kyiv, increasing pressure on Ukraine's air defense capabilities. Zelensky is expected to urge NATO allies to accelerate the delivery of interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems and expand military assistance.
Speaking upon arrival, the Ukrainian leader said the summit presents an opportunity for allies to make important decisions that will enhance Ukraine's security, improve defense cooperation, and strengthen partnerships between Ukraine, Europe, and the United States.
During the summit, Zelensky is also scheduled to meet Mark Rutte and other allied leaders at the NATO Defense Industry Forum. Ukraine is expected to sign new agreements with European partners aimed at boosting drone defense cooperation.
On Wednesday, Zelensky is expected to meet Trump to discuss military assistance, including the supply of Patriot interceptor missiles, and possible strategies to advance efforts toward ending the war with Russia.
NATO allies are also expected to consider a new multi-billion-euro defense support package for Ukraine and review progress toward increased defense spending commitments across the alliance.
