The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, identified as Maimunatu Idris from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, for allegedly severing her boyfriend's genitalia during an incident at a hotel in Kano.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area of Kano. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a sharp knife after learning that he planned to marry another woman.
Police said officers responded swiftly after receiving the report, arrested the suspect at the scene, and recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack.
The victim was immediately taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori condemned the incident, urging members of the public not to resort to violence in resolving personal disputes. He assured residents that the case would be thoroughly investigated and that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
An eyewitness, who works as a security guard near the hotel, claimed the woman invited her boyfriend to the hotel after discovering his intention to end their relationship and marry someone else. The witness alleged that she attacked him while they were together in the room before she was apprehended and handed over to the police.
Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
