The Nigerian Army has arrested a soldier, Private Mohammed Yusuf, who was previously declared wanted for allegedly supplying military equipment to terrorists and other criminal groups.
According to a statement issued by the acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Muhammed Goni, the suspect was apprehended by troops of the 7 Provost Group at Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri, Borno State, on July 25, 2026, while allegedly attempting to escape to neighboring Cameroon.
Military authorities said Yusuf, attached to the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory in Lagos, had been declared wanted on July 23, 2026. Preliminary investigations indicate that he absconded from his unit on July 7 before relocating to Maiduguri, where he reportedly went into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate.
The Army said the arrest followed credible intelligence and is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle networks that provide logistical support to terrorists and criminal organizations.
Private Yusuf is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where investigators are working to determine the full extent of his alleged activities and identify any accomplices.
Captain Goni emphasized that the Nigerian Army remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and ensuring that anyone involved in supporting terrorism or criminal activities is brought to justice, regardless of their status. He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to strengthen ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
