The United States carried out a new wave of airstrikes on southern Iran early Friday, marking the sixth consecutive night of military operations as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate.
According to Iranian officials, the strikes targeted key infrastructure in Hormozgan Province, including several bridges, a railway station and electricity facilities around Bandar Abbas. Iranian authorities said at least eight people were killed overnight, while dozens were injured. They also reported power outages in parts of southern Iran, with restoration efforts underway.
In response, Iran launched missiles and drones targeting US military facilities and strategic locations across the Gulf region. Air defence systems were activated in Bahrain, while Qatar said it intercepted incoming missiles, though one child was injured by falling debris during the interceptions.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard also claimed attacks on US military assets in Kuwait, Oman, Jordan and Syria. Jordan confirmed its air defence systems intercepted several missiles without casualties, while reports indicated a commercial tanker near Oman's coast was struck by an unidentified projectile.
Iranian military officials warned that the Strait of Hormuz would not return to normal conditions, accusing the United States of increasing instability in the region.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance said some members of the Israeli government had attempted to influence US policy to continue military operations against Iran despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
The latest exchange of attacks highlights the growing regional tensions and raises concerns about the security of Gulf countries and international shipping routes.
