The United States has carried out a new wave of airstrikes against targets in southern Iran following an Iranian missile attack on American forces stationed in Jordan.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation targeted dozens of sites linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including military command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal defense systems, surveillance sites, and maritime infrastructure.
The strikes reportedly focused on strategic areas along Iran's southern coastline, including Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials said a residential building on the island was damaged, trapping three people under the rubble while two others were injured and taken to hospital.
Explosions were also reported in Bandar Abbas, Abadan, Kazerun, and Kish Island. Iranian authorities said airport operations and ferry services on Kish Island were not disrupted despite the attacks.
The latest military action came after US President Donald Trump vowed a strong response to Iran's recent missile strike on a US military base in Jordan.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard warned that it would continue resisting as long as Washington maintains what it described as military aggression and threats.
Security analysts say Washington may continue targeting military infrastructure linked to Iran's activities around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route, while leaving room for diplomatic negotiations.
The United States also announced new sanctions against two Iranian companies accused of supporting IRGC activities related to commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The renewed strikes mark another escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran, raising concerns over regional stability and the security of international energy supplies.
