Three-Year-Old Boy Rescued Alive Six Days After Venezuela Earthquakes

A three-year-old boy has been rescued alive from the rubble six days after powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela, offering a rare glimmer of hope as the death toll continues to rise and humanitarian needs worsen.

The child, identified as Klieber Morán, was pulled from the debris in La Guaira state by a Jordanian search and rescue team. He received first aid at the scene before being taken to a hospital in Caracas, where officials said he is in stable condition.

Venezuelan authorities described the rescue as a symbol of hope, saying it showed there was still a possibility of finding more survivors despite nearly a week having passed since the disaster.

The twin earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, have killed at least 1,943 people, injured more than 10,000 others, and left tens of thousands missing or displaced. Preliminary satellite assessments by NASA indicate that nearly 59,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed.

The United Nations has warned that the humanitarian situation is rapidly deteriorating, with severe shortages of food, shelter, clean water, and medical supplies in the worst-affected areas. The UN refugee agency has appealed for $15 million to provide emergency assistance to about 30,000 survivors over the next six months.

The World Health Organization also warned of an increased risk of disease outbreaks, including measles and diphtheria, due to disrupted healthcare services and low vaccination coverage.

International rescue teams from several countries continue searching for survivors, while humanitarian aid, including medical supplies and emergency relief materials, is arriving to support thousands of people affected by the disaster.
