Floods Kill 59 in Ivory Coast, Search Continues for Missing Victims

At least 59 people have died in severe flooding across Ivory Coast, the government has confirmed.

Government spokesman Amadou Coulibaly announced the death toll after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, saying search and rescue operations are still underway and warning that the number of fatalities could increase as emergency teams continue to search affected areas.

The floods follow days of heavy rainfall that caused widespread damage in several communities.

The disaster comes as neighboring Ghana also battles deadly flooding triggered by intense rains. Ghanaian authorities have reported at least 12 deaths after floods inundated large parts of the country, including the capital, Accra.

Authorities in both countries are urging residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert as heavy rains continue across parts of West Africa.
