Three Political Parties Miss INEC Deadline for Presidential Candidate Submission

Three political parties failed to submit the names of their presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closed its nomination portal for the 2027 general elections.

According to an INEC official, the affected parties are the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Nyesom Wike, and the Labour Party (LP) faction led by Nenadi Usman.

The official disclosed that almost all other registered political parties successfully uploaded the names of their presidential and National Assembly candidates before the deadline expired at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday.

Major parties that completed the process include the All Progressives Congress (APC), which submitted President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for re-election, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which nominated Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), which submitted Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

INEC had earlier extended the submission deadline following requests from political parties but maintained that no further extension would be granted.

Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over some National Assembly candidates in Benue, Kwara, and Nasarawa states, while legal disputes involving the ADC and Accord Party continue to generate controversy over candidate recognition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
