A massive fire at a Coupang logistics warehouse in Incheon, South Korea, has continued to burn for more than 52 hours, prompting authorities to evacuate nearby businesses over fears that parts of the building could collapse.
The blaze started early on Saturday on the sixth floor of the eight-storey fulfilment centre and quickly spread to the seventh floor. Firefighters have been battling the flames continuously, with smoke still rising from the warehouse despite rainfall.
Coupang confirmed that all employees were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. Officials believe the warehouse contained large quantities of flammable materials, including household goods, cardboard boxes and plastic packaging, which have made the fire difficult to extinguish.
On Sunday, authorities ordered the evacuation of shops and factories located within 116 metres of the warehouse after engineers warned of a possible partial building collapse.
The Incheon facility serves the Seoul metropolitan area and covers approximately 299,000 square metres—about the size of 42 football fields. It is one of more than 100 logistics centres operated by Coupang across South Korea.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Authorities said a full investigation will begin once the blaze is completely under control.
Coupang Fulfilment Services apologised for the incident and pledged full cooperation with investigators, while also promising support for firefighters and nearby residents affected by the fire.
