Sokoto Village Head, Son, Four Others Laid to Rest After Deadly Bandit Attack

The Village Head of Kulodo community, his eldest son and four other victims have been buried following a deadly bandit attack on Kulodo and neighbouring Kwamtsi villages in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to residents, five of the victims were killed in Kulodo, while another person lost his life in nearby Kwamtsi. Four people were abducted during the attack, while two others sustained injuries.

Residents said the assailants stormed the communities on Thursday evening, but the victims' bodies could not be recovered until late Friday because fears of another attack prevented rescue efforts.

Security personnel and senior government officials later visited the affected communities, enabling the evacuation of the bodies and their burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

A Nigeria Red Cross volunteer, Ahmad Suleiman, confirmed that Red Cross members worked alongside security agencies and community volunteers to recover the bodies and assist with funeral arrangements.

Eyewitnesses described the attack as one of the worst in recent months, alleging that about 150 armed bandits riding motorcycles invaded the villages, firing indiscriminately before looting homes and shops.

The attackers were also said to have rustled more than 200 livestock and stolen cash, mobile phones and other valuables from residents.

One resident said many of the victims were killed inside their homes while attempting to hide, while the Village Head and his eldest son were reportedly shot dead at the entrance of their residence as they tried to escape.

Another resident claimed that a local farmer, identified as Alhaji Shehu, lost more than ₦1 million in cash and over 40 cattle during the raid.

The burial was attended by senior government officials, including the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government, lawmakers, security chiefs, military personnel and community leaders, who offered condolences to the affected families and pledged continued efforts to improve security in the area.
