Russian Court Seizes 123 Jehovah's Witnesses Properties

A court in Moscow has ordered the confiscation of 123 real estate assets belonging to the Jehovah's Witnesses, transferring ownership of the properties to the Russian government.

According to Russian court authorities, the seized assets include 63 residential and commercial buildings covering more than 11,000 square metres, as well as 60 land plots totaling about 5.6 hectares located across Russia. The properties had reportedly been registered under the Swedish branch of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Russia outlawed the Jehovah's Witnesses as an "extremist organization" in 2017, leading to the arrest and imprisonment of many of its members on extremism-related charges. However, the European Court of Human Rights ruled in 2022 that the ban violated international human rights standards.

The latest court decision marks another significant development in Russia's ongoing legal actions against the religious group.
