The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected drug dealers during a coordinated operation targeting criminal hideouts and drug hotspots in Jakusko Local Government Area.
The raid, carried out on Friday by a joint team of police officers and local vigilantes, led to the recovery of more than 300 sachets and packages of suspected illicit drugs, including Tramadol, Vega tablets, Indian hemp, and other banned substances.
Police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim said the operation involved personnel from the Area Command in Gashua, Bade 'A' and 'B' Divisions, Garin Alkali Division, Yusufari Division, and Jakusko Division, working alongside members of the Peace Group Vigilante.
According to him, the suspects were arrested while allegedly selling, consuming, and abusing illegal drugs at Buduwa Market in Jakusko.
Abdulkarim stated that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects are providing useful information to help security agencies track down other members of the criminal network. He added that they would be charged to court after investigations are completed.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to intensify raids on criminal hideouts across the state as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.
The police also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to improve security and reduce crime across Yobe State.
