Two people were killed and five others were shot after an active shooter opened fire during the annual Salsa on St. Clair street festival in Midtown Toronto, Canada, on Saturday.
Toronto Police said officers responded to the scene and found five people suffering from gunshot wounds. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the conditions of the remaining victims were not immediately disclosed.
Authorities urged residents to avoid the area as emergency responders secured the scene and launched an investigation. Police have yet to announce any arrests or identify a suspect, and the motive for the shooting remains unknown.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the attack, describing it as a horrific act of violence. He expressed sympathy to the victims and their families and pledged full support for law enforcement officers working to apprehend those responsible.
