The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal details of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the electoral body announced that the submission deadline, initially set for Saturday, July 11, has been moved to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
According to INEC, the extension followed a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which appealed on behalf of political parties that encountered difficulties uploading candidates' information through the commission's online nomination portal.
The commission said the decision demonstrates its commitment to ensuring an inclusive electoral process while remaining within the provisions of the law.
INEC urged all political parties to take advantage of the additional three-day window to complete the submission of their candidates' names and required documents before the new deadline expires.
The extension comes after several political parties reported technical and administrative challenges in meeting the original submission deadline. Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed the successful upload of all its 471 candidates for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
