Philippines Confirms H5N1 Bird Flu Outbreak in Backyard Poultry

The Philippines has confirmed an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus among backyard poultry in Oriental Mindoro province, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

The outbreak was detected in a flock of 39 birds in the town of Capalan after laboratory testing confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus. As a precautionary measure, all the affected birds were culled to prevent the disease from spreading further.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as avian influenza continues to pose a threat to poultry production worldwide. The virus has caused significant losses in bird populations in recent years, disrupted food supplies, increased poultry prices, and raised concerns over the possibility of transmission to humans.

Philippine veterinary authorities say they are implementing disease control measures and surveillance to contain the outbreak and protect the country's poultry industry.
