Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has renewed his call for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign, arguing that the president no longer has the capacity to effectively address Nigeria's growing economic and security challenges.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Sunday Politics, the former Anambra State governor said Nigeria needs a leader with renewed energy, vision, and commitment to tackle the country's pressing problems.
Obi stated that Tinubu should retire peacefully and allow a new generation of leadership to take over.
«"The Bola Tinubu who served as governor is not the same Bola Tinubu leading Nigeria today. He is tired and should step aside so the country can move forward," Obi said.»
He further claimed that the current administration is failing to provide effective leadership, insisting that the nation is moving in the wrong direction under President Tinubu.
Obi also raised concerns over worsening poverty, hunger, insecurity, and unemployment, citing recent reports from international organizations that project rising poverty levels and food insecurity across Nigeria.
According to him, political leaders should focus on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians, including education, healthcare, insecurity, and economic development, rather than engaging in unnecessary political distractions.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Obi urged political parties and candidates to prioritize policies that improve the lives of citizens, saying the election should be centered on solving Nigeria's real problems.
His remarks come amid increasing political debate over the country's economic situation and preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
