A 17-year-old Palestinian footballer, Fadi Hamdallah al-Nassan, has died from injuries he sustained after being shot during an attack on his village in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian officials and his family.
Al-Nassan, who played for the Palestinian national youth football team and Al-Mughayyir Club, was wounded on July 11 during an incident in the village of Al-Mughayyir, east of Ramallah. He died a week later after undergoing treatment.
The Palestine Football Association (PFA) said he was shot in the thigh while Israeli settlers were attacking the village. According to the association, his leg was later amputated, but he did not survive his injuries.
His father said the teenager had rushed toward the scene after hearing women and children calling for help during the attack. Family members described him as a talented footballer, dedicated student, and well-liked member of the community.
His funeral was held on Saturday, with mourners gathering in Al-Mughayyir to pay their final respects.
The incident comes amid ongoing violence in the occupied West Bank, where clashes involving Israeli forces, settlers, and Palestinians have increased significantly since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
Separately, Palestinian media reported additional incidents on Saturday, including fires that damaged olive groves near Ramallah and the burning of a Palestinian family's home near Nablus, as well as Israeli military raids in towns near Jenin.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain disputed, and the broader conflict in the occupied West Bank continues to draw international attention.
