North Korea Denounces NATO, Insists Denuclearisation Must Begin with U.S. Allies

North Korea has strongly criticized the United States and its allies following this week's NATO summit, accusing the alliance of expanding military cooperation and increasing arms spending under the guise of regional security.

In a statement released through its Foreign Ministry, Pyongyang said NATO is intensifying bloc politics and portraying North Korea's legitimate security measures as a threat. The country argued that the alliance is becoming increasingly confrontational by strengthening military ties with partners in the Asia-Pacific region.

North Korea also rejected renewed calls for its denuclearisation, insisting that any efforts to reduce nuclear weapons should begin with U.S. allies, including South Korea and Japan, as well as NATO members involved in nuclear-sharing arrangements.

The statement maintained that Pyongyang will continue to protect its sovereignty and national security through what it described as the responsible exercise of its sovereign rights.

The remarks came shortly after NATO leaders announced major defence procurement agreements and pledged closer military cooperation. North Korea has also recently declared plans to further strengthen and modernise its nuclear forces under the leadership of Kim Jong Un.
