Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling hunger and child malnutrition through expanded food assistance programmes and community food banks.
Tinubu made the statement on Tuesday in Akure, Ondo State, during the distribution of food items to vulnerable groups under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, the First Lady said the initiative was designed to support vulnerable Nigerians and ensure that children have the opportunity to grow in good health and achieve their potential.
She explained that the Food Outreach Scheme, launched in March 2024, provides food support to persons living with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups, helping families improve their living conditions.
> “No Nigerian should go hungry. That is our mandate and part of our vision for the Renewed Hope Initiative,” Tinubu said.
According to her, the programme receives monthly support from two donors who provide two truckloads of food items, enabling two states to benefit every month.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, described the intervention as a reflection of the Federal Government’s commitment to reducing poverty and supporting vulnerable citizens.
The governor said the programme goes beyond food distribution, describing it as a symbol of compassion, unity and collective responsibility toward improving the lives of less privileged Nigerians.
Aiyedatiwa also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, stating that Ondo State had already endorsed the President for a second term.
He added that food security remains essential to human dignity, social stability and national development, as access to adequate nutrition helps children perform better in school and strengthens families and communities.
