The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has ended the use of a third-party company for processing Nigerian visa applications in the United States, directing applicants to submit their requests directly to Nigerian diplomatic missions.
In a statement issued by the Service's Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the new arrangement takes immediate effect. The move means travellers seeking Nigerian visas must now apply directly at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, D.C., or the Consulates in New York and Atlanta until further notice.
The NIS said the embassy and consulates have made adequate preparations to ensure smooth visa submission, processing and issuance during the transition.
Applicants were advised to monitor official communication channels of the Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigerian missions in the United States for updates on visa application procedures.
Although the Service did not give a reason for ending the contract with its former service provider, the decision comes as part of the Federal Government's efforts to improve consular services, increase transparency and reduce delays and additional charges often associated with third-party visa processing. The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to providing efficient and reliable services to all visa applicants.
