Kwara Orders Demolition of Unsafe Two-Storey Building Over Collapse Risk

The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate demolition of a severely dilapidated two-storey building in the Oke-Suna area of Ilorin East Local Government Area after declaring it unsafe and a danger to public safety.

The directive was issued through the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), which also sealed the building following complaints from residents that the structure was at risk of collapsing.

According to KWEPA, officials inspected the property after receiving reports from members of the community. During the inspection, residents said they had repeatedly warned the building's owner about its deteriorating condition, but no repairs were carried out.

KWEPA General Manager, Jide Aina, described the building as a serious threat to lives and property and ordered the owner to begin demolition immediately.

He warned that if the owner fails to comply, the state government will carry out the demolition to prevent a possible disaster.

Aina reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting residents through proactive environmental enforcement and urged the public to report abandoned buildings, unsafe structures, and other environmental hazards for prompt action.
