Israel Faces Political Divide Over Proposed Gaza Withdrawal.

Israel is facing growing political pressure over a proposed agreement that could see its forces withdraw from Gaza after Hamas disarms, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yet to publicly endorse the plan.

The agreement, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, calls for Hamas to surrender its weapons, followed by a phased Israeli military withdrawal and the transfer of authority in Gaza to a Palestinian administration.

However, Israeli officials have indicated that no withdrawal will occur until Hamas is fully and verifiably disarmed. A senior Israeli official said military positions in Gaza would remain unchanged until Israel is satisfied that the disarmament process has been completed.

The proposal has drawn strong criticism from several Israeli political leaders. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir rejected the plan, arguing that military operations against Hamas should continue. Opposition figures, including former military chief Gadi Eisenkot, also questioned any agreement that does not permanently dismantle Hamas's military and political capabilities.

Political analysts say Netanyahu faces a difficult balancing act ahead of Israel's upcoming elections. While he must manage pressure from his right-wing coalition, he is also expected to maintain close ties with the Trump administration, which strongly supports the agreement.

Experts believe Netanyahu may consider limited military redeployments to demonstrate progress without committing to a full withdrawal from Gaza. Others argue that a complete withdrawal is unlikely given his long-standing security policy and the views of many members of his governing coalition.

The future of the agreement is expected to depend on developments in the disarmament process, Israeli domestic politics, and continued diplomatic engagement between Israel and the United States.
