Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has praised the attendance of representatives from more than 70 countries at the funeral ceremonies of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling the event a lasting symbol of Iran's international relationships.
In a message posted in Arabic on X, Araghchi expressed gratitude to the countries that sent delegations, giving special recognition to what he described as Iran's "loyal Arab brothers" for standing with Tehran during the mourning period.
The funeral ceremonies, which began on Friday and are scheduled to continue until July 9, have attracted delegations from across the Middle East, Asia, and other regions. Officials from countries including Pakistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, China, and Russia are among those attending, alongside representatives of Iran's regional allies.
Iranian authorities have presented the large international turnout as evidence of the country's diplomatic influence despite recent regional tensions. The ceremonies are also serving as a platform for meetings between foreign officials on issues related to regional security and future diplomatic cooperation.
The funeral follows months of heightened tensions after the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Iranian officials are expected to use the international presence at the ceremonies to reinforce their diplomatic position in ongoing regional and international engagements.
