Iran's Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has warned that Tehran has no reason to remain committed to its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States if the agreement fails to serve Iran's national interests.
Speaking on Wednesday, Qalibaf said the agreement would only remain meaningful if all of its provisions are fully implemented. He stressed that Iran's armed forces remain prepared to respond to any military threat while diplomacy should continue to protect the country's interests.
According to Qalibaf, Iran's strategy combines military preparedness with diplomatic engagement, arguing that negotiations should not be viewed as surrender but as part of a broader national security policy.
He accused the United States of failing to honor the terms of the MoU, claiming Washington had committed numerous violations since the agreement was signed. He said Iran would continue to defend its rights and security if the deal is not respected.
Qalibaf also emphasized Iran's determination to maintain what he described as its security arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the waterway remains vital to the country's national security and commercial interests.
Calling for national unity, the parliament speaker urged Iranians to remain steadfast in the face of external pressure, insisting that the country's leadership would continue pursuing both defensive and diplomatic measures to safeguard Iran's sovereignty.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington over the implementation of the interim agreement and the broader security situation in the region.
