Iran launched multiple waves of missile and drone attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain on Sunday, escalating tensions in the Gulf after the United States carried out its eighth straight night of strikes on Iranian targets.
Kuwaiti authorities said one of the attacks sparked a fire at a power and water plant, while Bahrain's military reported that its air defence systems successfully intercepted several incoming missiles and drones. Both countries host major US military facilities.
Iran's military claimed it targeted a US ammunition depot at Camp Al-Adiri and air defence radar systems at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. Tehran said the strikes were part of its response to continued US military operations and vowed to continue defending the country against what it described as its enemies.
Meanwhile, Israel said an Iranian missile was launched toward the Jordanian city of Aqaba. Israeli and Jordanian forces reportedly intercepted the missile after air raid sirens sounded in Jordan.
The attacks followed fresh US air strikes on military sites in Iran's Hormozgan and Khuzestan provinces, as well as Qeshm Island. Washington said the operations were aimed at weakening Iran's military capabilities and protecting international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Atomic Energy Organization also accused the US of striking an under-construction nuclear power plant in the country's southwest, calling the attack a violation of international law.
In the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it stopped two vessels using what it described as an "unsafe route," adding that both ships had been involved in an unspecified incident.
The latest exchanges mark another major escalation in the conflict, raising fears of wider instability across the Gulf region and further disruptions to global energy supplies.
