Flash Flood Kills Four, Four Others Missing in Northern Vietnam

At least four people have died and four others remain missing after a flash flood swept through Muong Than village in Lai Chau Province, northern Vietnam, following several days of heavy rainfall.

The disaster, which struck early Friday, also left seven people injured and caused widespread destruction to homes, roads, and infrastructure, according to Vietnamese authorities.

Officials said the heavy rains have triggered landslides and flash floods across the region since Wednesday, damaging power lines, hundreds of homes, and inundating about 238 hectares of farmland.

Vietnam's disaster management agency has warned that more heavy rainfall—up to 250 millimetres—is expected in parts of northern Vietnam, raising the risk of further flooding and landslides.

Vietnam experiences frequent floods and storms during its rainy season, which typically runs from July to September. Government data shows that natural disasters, mostly floods, claimed 489 lives across the country last year.
