Fire Breaks Out on Gas Vessels at Egypt's Damietta Port, No Casualties Reported

Two gas processing and storage vessels caught fire at Egypt's Damietta Port on Wednesday, prompting an emergency response from authorities. The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum confirmed that no injuries were recorded during the incident.

According to the ministry, emergency teams quickly contained the fire in line with established safety and rapid response procedures. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.

Earlier reports from maritime shipping company Inchcape indicated that an explosion occurred at the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. Despite the incident, port operations at other terminals and berths are expected to resume overnight.

Reuters, citing British maritime security firm Ambrey, reported that a US-owned floating gas storage tanker may have been struck by a drone. The vessel's crew was safely evacuated, and firefighters succeeded in bringing the blaze under control. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

The fire comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following renewed exchanges between the United States and Iran, raising concerns over security in the region.
