A Brazilian Supreme Court judge has ordered a 30-day suspension of all visits to former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently under house arrest, allowing access only to his lawyers and medical personnel.
Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the decision followed a social media post by Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the former president's son and a presidential hopeful, which allegedly violated the conditions of Bolsonaro's house arrest.
According to the court, Jair Bolsonaro is prohibited from using social media or communicating through third parties under the terms of his humanitarian house arrest. The restrictions were imposed after he was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for his role in an alleged coup plot following Brazil's 2022 presidential election.
The court also ruled that Bolsonaro may not receive visitors for political or electoral purposes until after the October elections and is barred from making political statements, either directly or through others.
Earlier this week, Justice Moraes also banned Senator Flavio Bolsonaro from visiting his father for 90 days, citing the publication of a letter in which the former president urged supporters to unite behind his son's presidential campaign.
Bolsonaro's legal team had not commented on the latest court order at the time of reporting.
