Borno Youths Hold Protest Against Insecurity, Call for Unity to Defeat Terrorism

Youths and students in Borno State on Sunday staged a peaceful protest in Maiduguri, urging Nigerians to unite against terrorism and other forms of criminality.

The awareness campaign, tagged #UniteAgainstTerror, attracted various youth and student organisations from across the state. The rally took place at the Post Office area in Maiduguri, where participants appealed for stronger public support for the government's fight against insecurity.

Speaking during the event, the leader of the Borno Youth and Students Forum, Suleiman Muhammed, praised the Federal Government and security agencies for their response to the recent abduction of students in Oyo State. He urged the authorities to intensify efforts to rescue all abducted victims in Borno and other parts of the country.

Muhammed also warned against paying ransom to terrorists, saying it encourages more kidnappings and strengthens criminal groups.

He called on the government to complement military operations with youth empowerment programmes, job creation, and improved living conditions to address the root causes of insecurity.

Another protester, Khadijat Abdullahi, stressed the need for increased investment in Nigeria's security architecture. She urged the government to provide better equipment and welfare for security personnel while tackling poverty and unemployment, which she described as key drivers of crime.

Protesters displayed placards bearing messages such as "Unity Is Our Weapon Against Terrorism," "Say No to Terrorism, Yes to Peace," "Together We Stand Against Terrorism and Criminality," and "A Secure Nigeria Starts With All of Us."

The demonstrators called on all Nigerians to work together with security agencies in the collective effort to restore lasting peace and security across the country.
