Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has welcomed plans to establish a $145 million solar manufacturing plant in the state, describing the project as a major step toward industrial development, job creation, and economic growth.
The facility, which will be developed by MD Nwakanma Nigeria Limited in partnership with Chinese technical experts, is planned for Umuelele, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
Speaking while receiving the investors at the Government House in Umuahia, Governor Otti praised the company for reaching the final investment stage and reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing a business-friendly environment.
He assured the investors that the state government would continue to support the project by making land and other necessary infrastructure available to ensure its successful implementation.
According to Otti, the investment will not only boost Abia's economy but also create employment opportunities, increase productivity, and improve the welfare of residents.
The leader of the investor delegation, Dr. Oko Jaja, said the company had made significant progress toward launching the project and revealed that the first phase of funding is expected to be released in September 2026.
Chief Executive Officer of MD Nwakanma Nigeria Limited, Dennis Nwakanma, said the solar manufacturing plant would be developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Abia State Government.
He added that the factory is expected to begin operations by the end of September and will manufacture solar panels and related renewable energy products while providing skills training and employment opportunities for young people.
