Venezuela Earthquake Disaster: Death Toll Climbs to 235 as Rescue Operations Continue

Rescue teams are working around the clock to find survivors trapped under collapsed buildings after two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela.

Authorities say at least 235 people have died and more than 4,300 others have been injured, with the northern coastal state of La Guaira among the worst affected areas.

The earthquakes caused widespread destruction, including the collapse of residential buildings in Caracas. Emergency workers, volunteers, and rescue dogs are searching through the rubble for survivors.

Venezuela’s Health Minister Carlos Alvarado said hospitals are overwhelmed, with many patients being treated in temporary medical facilities.

International support is arriving as several countries prepare to assist Venezuela’s recovery efforts. The United States announced emergency support, while Canada pledged humanitarian aid including food, clean water, healthcare supplies, and sanitation assistance.

Rescue teams from neighbouring countries are also being deployed, with Colombia sending personnel and equipment to help with search-and-rescue operations.

Officials warned that Venezuela’s existing economic difficulties and damaged public services could make the disaster response more challenging.

The earthquakes also caused power outages and disrupted some infrastructure, though early assessments suggest major oil and gas facilities suffered limited damage.
