Egypt’s head coach Hossam Hassan has expressed support for Iran’s national team ahead of their important FIFA World Cup 2026 Group G match, calling for equal treatment and fair play for all teams.
Speaking before Friday’s match in Seattle, Hassan said every team participating in the tournament deserves respect and the same opportunities.
“Respect and fair play mean everyone should respect everyone, and there should be fairness between all teams,” Hassan said, adding that he has great respect for the Iranian side.
His comments came after Iran raised concerns over travel restrictions and scheduling difficulties during the tournament, with the team previously facing challenges entering the United States before matches.
Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei said the restrictions affected his team’s preparations but insisted they would overcome the difficulties and focus on the game.
Both coaches praised each other’s teams ahead of the encounter. Ghalenoei described Egypt as a strong and organised team, saying they have many talented players beyond star forward Mohamed Salah.
Egypt currently lead Group G with four points, while Iran and Belgium have two points each. A draw would be enough for Egypt to qualify for the next round, but Hassan said his team will still aim for victory.
Egypt secured their first-ever World Cup win with a 3–1 victory over New Zealand, a result that sparked celebrations among fans back home.
