U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Israel and Iran to avoid further military actions that could jeopardize a potential ceasefire agreement, as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Trump said there should be “no more attacks” by Israel in Lebanon and also no further strikes by Hezbollah or other groups against Israel. He warned that ongoing violence could undermine what he described as a possible breakthrough toward peace.
His comments came after the Israeli military carried out strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, targeting what it said were Hezbollah-linked infrastructure sites. Smoke was seen rising over the capital following the attacks.
Israeli officials said the strikes were in response to rocket fire from Hezbollah into northern Israel earlier in the day. Lebanon’s health and security situation remains tense, with residents in affected areas fleeing damaged neighborhoods.
At the same time, diplomatic efforts involving the United States, Iran, and regional mediators are reportedly progressing toward a possible ceasefire framework. However, officials warn that recent escalations could complicate or delay the agreement.
Iranian negotiators accused the United States of failing to fully control Israeli military actions, suggesting that continued strikes weaken trust in the ongoing talks. Meanwhile, mediators from countries including Pakistan and Qatar are working to finalize the terms of a potential deal.
The proposed agreement is expected to establish a temporary framework for further negotiations, including unresolved issues such as Iran’s nuclear program and frozen financial assets. It may also include provisions affecting regional trade routes like the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite cautious optimism among some diplomats, the situation remains fragile, with both Israel and Iran continuing to exchange accusations and limited military actions as negotiations continue.
