12 Killed in Plane Crash Near Missouri Airport

Twelve people lost their lives after a small aircraft crashed near an airport in the U.S. state of Missouri on Sunday, authorities confirmed.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the aircraft went down near Butler Memorial Airport in the city of Butler at approximately 11:30 a.m. local time.

Officials said the plane was carrying 12 people, including the pilot and 11 passengers. All occupants were killed in the crash.

Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Butler Police Department, and Bates County Sheriff's Department, rushed to the scene to conduct rescue and recovery operations.

Authorities temporarily closed one of the main roads leading to the airport as emergency crews worked at the crash site.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway. Further details are expected as officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Butler is located about 66 miles (106 kilometers) south of Kansas City.
