U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that an agreement with Iran is expected to be signed on Sunday, although Iranian officials have not confirmed that a final deal has been reached.
Speaking on his Truth Social platform, Trump said, “The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow,” adding that the Strait of Hormuz would be “open to all” once the agreement is finalized.
Iranian officials have expressed cautious optimism but stopped short of confirming any signing. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a potential agreement was “closer than ever,” while Iranian state media has suggested discussions may still amount to an extension of ongoing negotiations rather than a final settlement.
According to Trump, the proposed deal would prevent Iran from developing or acquiring nuclear weapons “through purchase, development, or any other form of procurement.” He also claimed the United States would eventually remove and destroy Iran’s remaining nuclear materials.
The announcement comes after a tense week of shifting positions between diplomacy and military threats. Trump recently called off planned strikes on Iran, while also criticizing Iranian negotiators for being “dishonorable” after reports of disagreements over proposed terms.
Tensions between the two countries have contributed to instability in the region in recent months, including disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route, which has affected energy markets.
As of now, the situation remains uncertain, with no official confirmation from Tehran that a final agreement has been reached or will be signed on Sunday.
