US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon are complicating diplomatic efforts with Iran, while confirming that he used strong language in a recent phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump said he described Netanyahu as “crazy” during the call, adding that he was frustrated by the intensity of Israel’s strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, which he believes are undermining progress toward broader regional negotiations involving Iran.
Despite the sharp remarks, Trump insisted his relationship with Netanyahu remains strong, describing the Israeli leader as a “wartime partner” and saying they continue to work closely on shared security goals.
Netanyahu, responding in a separate interview, dismissed suggestions of a serious rift between the two leaders. He said their relationship remains solid, describing occasional disagreements as “tactical” rather than fundamental.
The comments come as the US continues efforts to broker ceasefire arrangements in Lebanon, where fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified in recent months and drawn wider regional concern.
US-mediated talks have included discussions on limiting hostilities and creating security arrangements in southern Lebanon, though continued strikes have raised doubts about the durability of any agreement.
Trump also declined to give a clear timeline for resolving the wider Iran-related conflict, saying he expects developments to unfold “fairly quickly” but acknowledging uncertainty on the ground.
Meanwhile, violence in Lebanon continues to escalate, with Israeli strikes reported in multiple areas, including near civilian zones, as Hezbollah and Israeli forces exchange attacks.
The broader regional conflict has already resulted in heavy casualties and mass displacement, while diplomatic efforts involving the United States, Israel, Lebanon, and Iran remain ongoing but fragile.
