Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has moved to dismiss suggestions of a widening rift with US President Donald Trump, following Trump’s confirmation that he recently criticized Netanyahu over Israel’s military operations in Lebanon.
Trump acknowledged in a media interview that he used strong language during a recent phone call, reportedly describing Netanyahu as “f***ing crazy” while expressing frustration over Israel’s escalating strikes in Lebanon. However, he also emphasized that he maintains a positive view of the Israeli leader.
Responding to the reports, Netanyahu insisted that relations between the two leaders remain strong, describing Trump as “the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House.” He said occasional disagreements are normal but do not affect their broader cooperation.
The exchange comes amid heightened regional tensions, as Israel’s military campaign in Lebanon continues to escalate, drawing international concern and complicating diplomatic efforts involving the United States and Iran.
Trump said he had spoken with Netanyahu and other regional actors in an effort to reduce hostilities, though fighting in southern Lebanon has persisted despite reported attempts to establish a ceasefire.
Netanyahu also reiterated Israel’s position that Hezbollah must be disarmed, while expressing support for what he described as a shared goal of long-term stability in Lebanon. He added that Israel seeks peace but only under conditions that ensure its security interests.
The situation reflects growing strain between Washington and Jerusalem over the handling of the Lebanon conflict, even as both leaders publicly insist their strategic partnership remains intact.
