Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 22 kidnapped victims and prevented further abduction attempts in Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
The military said in a statement on Saturday that the operations were carried out on June 18, 2026, following intelligence reports and distress calls from affected communities.
According to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the first incident occurred along the Sabon Birni–Shinkafi Road at Kura Mota Village, where terrorists blocked the highway, attacked two civilian vehicles, and kidnapped several passengers.
One civilian was killed during the attack before troops arrived and launched a rescue operation.
Danja said the troops immediately mobilised, supported by aerial surveillance, and pursued the attackers.
The pressure from the troops forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and escape, leading to the rescue of 17 kidnapped passengers who were handed over to the authorities.
In another operation the same day, troops responded to a distress call from Chohi Village in Isa LGA, where armed attackers attempted to abduct farmers working on their farms.
The troops pursued the attackers and rescued five kidnapped farmers, who were later reunited with their families.
The military also carried out patrols in nearby communities, including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale villages, to reassure residents and prevent further attacks.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the successful operations demonstrate its commitment to protecting lives, securing communities, and ensuring residents can carry out their daily activities without fear.
