Tinubu Approves Recruitment of 1,000 Forest Guards for Katsina

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Katsina State as part of efforts to strengthen security and combat banditry and kidnapping across the state.

The announcement was made by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda after a meeting with Islamic clerics and other stakeholders at the Government House in Katsina. The meeting focused on finding community-based solutions to the persistent security challenges affecting many parts of the state.

Governor Radda described the approval as a major boost to ongoing security operations, noting that the forest guards would work alongside conventional security agencies and local vigilante groups to improve safety in rural communities.

According to the governor, the newly recruited personnel will receive proper training and equipment to enable them effectively patrol forests and remote areas that have often been used as hideouts by criminal groups.

He explained that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to reclaim forest regions from bandits and restore peace to affected communities.

Radda also emphasized the importance of public participation in the fight against insecurity. He said the engagement with religious leaders was aimed at mobilizing communities to support government efforts, stressing that security agencies alone cannot defeat banditry and kidnapping without the cooperation of residents.

The recruitment of the forest guards is expected to enhance intelligence gathering, improve surveillance in vulnerable areas, and strengthen the overall security architecture of Katsina State.
