Police in Yobe State have uncovered an illegal firearms manufacturing workshop in Potiskum Local Government Area and arrested seven individuals suspected of producing and distributing illegal weapons.
According to the Yobe State Police Command, the operation was carried out on Monday following credible intelligence reports about suspicious activities at a blacksmith workshop located along Danchuwa Road in the Tasha Adua area.
Officers from the Potiskum Area Command, working alongside the divisional headquarters, stormed the site and arrested the suspects during the raid.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed that several items were recovered from the scene. These included two locally fabricated pistols, multiple metal components believed to be used for weapon production, damaged Dane guns, and workshop tools such as a filing machine and a cutlass.
The police said the suspects are currently in custody and are being investigated to determine possible collaborators, buyers, and the intended use of the weapons.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has ordered a broader investigation to identify other illegal arms production sites and assess the wider security risks.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
