At least seven people have been killed and several others injured after a drone struck a passenger bus in the Russian-controlled Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, according to local Russian-installed authorities.
Officials said the bus was travelling along a route between Moscow and Simferopol in Crimea when it was hit. Eleven passengers were reported wounded and are receiving medical treatment.
The incident is part of a wider surge in cross-border attacks between Russia and Ukraine. Russian authorities claim Ukrainian drone operations have increased in intensity, with multiple regions reportedly targeted overnight.
Russia’s defence ministry stated that hundreds of drones were intercepted across different regions, while regional governors reported damage to infrastructure, residential buildings, and public facilities in areas including St Petersburg and central Russia.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have not confirmed involvement in the Donetsk bus attack but have continued to report large-scale Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities in recent days, which have caused civilian casualties and widespread damage.
Both sides have described their recent strikes as responses to earlier attacks, raising concerns that the conflict is entering a new phase of intensified aerial warfare.
The situation remains fluid as investigations continue and neither side shows signs of de-escalation.
