Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has sent a message of condolence to Thailand following the death of Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who died at the age of 47.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, King Salman expressed deep sympathy to the Thai monarch, the royal family, and the people of Thailand. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also sent a similar condolence message.
The Thai royal palace announced that Princess Bajrakitiyabha died after being hospitalized for about three years following a sudden collapse in December 2022. She had been receiving treatment in Bangkok after reportedly suffering a severe infection that led to her prolonged illness.
The princess was widely respected for her work in legal reform, justice, and prison rehabilitation. She was known for promoting better conditions for female prisoners through her “Kamlangjai” (Inspire) initiative, which focused on rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
She also served as a public prosecutor, worked with Thailand’s diplomatic mission to the United Nations in New York, and later became Thailand’s ambassador to Austria from 2012 to 2014.
In addition, she was a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, where she contributed to the promotion of international standards for the treatment of women prisoners.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul described her as a national pride, saying her legacy in justice and social welfare would continue to inspire future generations.
