Police Rescue Woman Allegedly Chained by Brother for Over One Year in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued a 36-year-old woman, Grace Aniekuoku, who was allegedly chained and confined in a room by her elder brother, Chinedu Aniekuoku, for more than one year and four months in Abuja.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed that the command received a distress report on May 12 concerning the woman's condition. Following the report, a team of detectives from the Katampe Police Division was immediately deployed to the scene.

According to the police commissioner, the suspect resisted officers and initially denied them access to the premises where his sister was being held. However, the officers forced their way into the room and found the victim chained, severely malnourished, and living in deplorable sanitary conditions.

The suspect was arrested on the spot, while the victim was rescued and taken to a hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim's son was allegedly taken away to an unknown location about two years ago. Police said the suspect subsequently confined his sister to prevent her from making inquiries about the child's whereabouts.

The police command said efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the missing boy, while investigations into the case continue.

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
