The Lagos and Ogun State Police Commands have launched a joint security operation, tagged Operation Kosaye, aimed at tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the two states.
The operation, which began on Friday, has led to the rescue of five kidnapped victims, the killing of four suspected kidnappers, and the arrest of 88 criminal suspects, according to the police.
Speaking during the launch at the Police Training School in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said the operation was initiated by the Inspector-General of Police with support from the Lagos and Ogun State Governments.
He explained that “Kosaye,” a Yoruba word meaning “there is no hiding place for criminals,” was designed to clear forests, criminal hideouts, and border communities being used as safe havens by kidnappers.
The police said officers have already dismantled several criminal camps, cleared forest routes, and arrested suspects linked to various crimes.
Ojajuni revealed that five kidnapped victims were rescued along the Ijebu-Ode corridor, while four suspected kidnappers were neutralised and four others arrested during the operation.
Recovered items displayed by the police included AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, locally made pistols, ammunition, mobile phones, and communication devices.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, said the operation had started producing results, with several forests previously occupied by criminals now reclaimed.
He added that Operation Kosaye was not a one-time exercise but would continue until security is restored across the Lagos-Ogun corridor.
The police urged residents to remain calm and report suspicious activities that could assist ongoing investigations.
