Nigeria Discovers World-Class Platinum Deposit in Kaduna State

Nigeria has announced a major breakthrough in its efforts to diversify the economy following the discovery of a high-grade polymetallic mineral deposit containing platinum in Kaduna State.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), Dr Dele Alake, during the fifth African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) held in Abuja.

The minister described the discovery as one of the biggest mineral finds in recent history, saying it could position Nigeria as a leading global destination for strategic minerals and sustainable mining investment.

According to him, national geological agencies verified the discovery and confirmed that the platinum deposit represents a major transformation for Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

Dr Alake said the discovery places Nigeria among emerging countries with valuable strategic mineral resources, adding that it would attract international investors interested in critical and precious minerals.

He stated that the Kaduna discovery would support the newly approved Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) framework, which aims to ensure that African minerals are processed, refined, and manufactured within the continent instead of being exported as raw materials.

The government said the find could strengthen Nigeria’s economy, create investment opportunities, and boost the country’s role in the global mining industry.
