The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has announced that a total of 15,281 candidates registered for the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for admission into technical colleges across Nigeria.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, disclosed this while monitoring the examination at the Federal Technical College, Uromi centre.
He said the examination was conducted across 203 centres nationwide and involved candidates seeking admission into various technical trades under the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme.
According to him, 10,626 of the candidates are male while 4,655 are female. He added that Enugu State recorded the highest number of candidates with 1,506 registrations, while Zamfara State recorded the lowest with 14 candidates.
The examination covered 28 technical trades, with Electrical Installation and Maintenance Practice recording the highest number of candidates at 3,875. Other popular courses included Computer Hardware and GSM Repairs (2,850 candidates), Catering Craft Practice (1,777), and Bricklaying, Blocklaying and Concreting (1,552).
Smaller entries were recorded in areas such as Woodwork, Carpentry and Joinery (421 candidates), Electronics System Maintenance (394), and Tiling and Cladding, which had the lowest participation with just one candidate.
Dr. Mohammed said early reports from monitoring teams showed that the examination was conducted smoothly in most centres, with candidates behaving orderly and officials performing their duties professionally.
He praised the effort of supervisors, invigilators, security agencies, and stakeholders for ensuring a smooth exercise.
He also warned that any form of malpractice, including impersonation or possession of unauthorized materials, would be met with strict disciplinary action in line with examination regulations.
The NABTEB boss reaffirmed the importance of technical education, saying it plays a key role in developing skilled manpower for national development, youth empowerment, and economic growth.
He assured stakeholders that the board remains committed to maintaining fairness, transparency, and credibility in all its examinations.
